爽!
I HEART HOLIDAYS!!! (BIMBOTIC..)
It's my 1 week break now and I'm enjoying every minute of it. Some of my classmates from CCH and Wellington (including !MEITING!) came down to Dunedin and I got to meet them the past few days.. It's awesomeee. I haven't met Jen for a looong time too, and we went to The Terrace for dinner yesterday, and I really enjoyed those few hours with Meits, Emu, Jen and Ka Wai.. NADS YOU SHOULVE BEEN HERE~!~! Missing you from Dunners.. (: I haven't had such stress-less non-school related chats for the longest time ever.. I think we need more of such meet ups more often, MICN301 ladies(I DUNNO WHY I STILL CALL OURSELVES 3rd yrs BUT OH WELL!)!!
Thank you, girls. (: I had great fun. Meits, txt me when you're going to the butterfly exhibition! Sounds very nerdy to go to such exhibitions right... But be jealous, cos' we've got holidays and you (maybe) don't! LOL...
Haven't uploaded photos from my cam yet so Jen and Ka Wai won't be seen in any photosss.. But I'll post them up later! (: And yes, Meits and Jen, I wore the same top for 2 consecutive nights... Cos' it's been so cold and that top really keeps me warm!! Hehehe.

sg friends
LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. I just found these photos and decided to post them up.. They're just damn funny I couldn't help smiling sillily to myself. Luckily I'm alone at home otherwise some people will think I'm mad. The time when 6 of us went to Bistro GaGa for dinner.. Awesome time with the black star ring and the sunnies. Man, imagine a rather sophisticated place, everyone else having their nice little quiet dinner, and 6 other mad ladies laughing and using their camera taking pictures for the whole half hour, WITH FLASH.. We must be such embarrassment, but who cares rite.. HAHAHA. To Eiferians! (:
I miss Joan and Shuo too, even though PANG Shuo always pangseh and lie that she's tired. We're the cam whores of the century. I can't believe we were at that Jap restaurant Sun with Moon for almost 2 hours waiting for that pang shuo and stayed a little longer for some photo taking session. Hahahahaha. Those were the times when we had soooooo much time for these... I think Shuo's in Shanghai still... Haven't been updated! LOL.

James' masterpiece
I heard that his other friend (who is also from Auckland) made the Sky Tower of Auckland! LOL, so they have a miniature Auckland right by their side.. Awwwww, how sweet.. I think his Harbour Bridge is about the size of my palm!
And now, the real thing...
Yay! everytime I'm on it, I know I'm either going to town for shopping, or going back to James' place for YUMMY dinnerrr. I miss Auckland!!
So ya, that's what they do at SCHOOL! Hehe, nah, he makes other stuff too, like the necklace he made for me last year ROFLLLLLLLLL. Kidding. He's in Dental Technology, and he needs to practice using the materials, so making stuff like this is good for him! Haha!
He left his miniature Harbour Bridge in the lab cos' according to him, it's the safest place already. Hahaha. Besides, it looks better with the Sky Tower next to it! (:
Cute-ness.
OUT!
The paranoid freakkk is doing...
I'm so glad this week's over, even though it was a looong week break and I only needed to be at the hospital for 3 days.. And you guys know why from the crazy posts I wrote a few days back.. Man, I can get pretty stressed sometimes aye! Need to take a chill pill sometimes, haha. (:
The church had its 12th year anniversary celebration today! We had an ENORMOUS cake which I believe was from Dessert Room (YEAH, the same place James bought my birthday cake from!), and free lunch cooked by the aunties of the church. Hahaha. The founder of the church, Pastor Siew, was there to give a sermon as well, and as usual, we all get tickled by the little songs he came up with, and the jokes he makes.. It was great having him around.
The pastor is one of many others in the world who gave their life to evangelising, helping the sick and poor, starting up new churches and so much more. Their contribution to the Christian community is so precious, and very much adored by our loving Father. We may think that we aren't as great as those evangelists who risk their lives to spread the gospel, because we merely help out at church, occasionally pray for a sick friend, or just working/studying.. But as long as we know that we are all serving the Lord with the right purpose, He knows that you are still doing an awesome job!
I google-d one of Pastor Siew's songs and someone ACTUALLY blogged about it! HAHA! Okay, I'll copy and paste it here. You gotta sing this song with the tune from the "1 2 3 4 5 6 7, 我的朋友在哪里?在那里,在那里,我的朋友在那里!" song. If you want to rap it that's fine too. It's in Mandarin and it's called the zero zero song (〇〇歌) LOL.
The main idea of this song is that life is GOOD with God. Without God, we're nothing, or zero. Pastor Siew's equation for this is: GOOD - GOD = O. And when we do believe in God, we have to put him first before everything else, otherwise we're nowhere better than nothing.

It's cute how he came up with this song, it's really helpful, and also cute! Hope you found that interesting too, hehe.

Jess..
Jess just missed a Neurology Outpatient Clinic this morning (unintentionally...), having menstrual cramps since this morning, neck ache after being thrown onto the couch by that certain strong guy (nothing dodgy happened, don't get your hopes too high. only a sore neck was what i got), still the dull ache in my leg and arm.. And now, diarrhoea for no apparent reason too.......
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. The only thing worrying me now is not even my health, but the missed OP clinic. ):
Brb. Toilet time.
Back. That was my 3rd time to the toilet since 11am. It's 12:32 now.. I'm wondering if there's an association between diarrhoea and menstruation, because I've had bouts of diarrhoea for a few times when I was having my periods, especially on the 1st few days.. This is worth researching on.. Unless I find out that this is yet another coincidental finding.. Of me eating bad food during the days leading to my 1st day of period. Hmmm..
Jess is really sick now.. She can hardly finish typing this sentence without feeling thrashy. The toilet bowl's her best friend now.. ): So sorry about the sad posts recently.. It's only during these times when just typing everything out will make me feel better..

KIASU.
4am Tuesday morning: I dreamt I was cutting someone's left off (!!!!) for no apparent reason, and I woke up holding onto a leg, thinking it wasn't mine I kept shaking it off trying to get it away from me. James was awoken by my screaming and saw me kicking my right leg while I was crying. I was totally blank. My right leg really felt like it wasn't mine.. I guess I was still semi-conscious and still living my dream (HURHUR). He shook me to get me thinking straight, until I realised my leg felt sooooooo 酸 - like a dull achy feeling which was SO UNCOMFORTABLE. I didn't sleep well the whole night, so did James who woke up at 4am by a mad woman screaming her head off. (and thus was late for his morning appointment with the church people)
Tuesday morning and noon: Dull achy pain still there.. Wondered if it was the way I slept, because the only 'sport' I did the previous day was Wii Sports at Lyd's.. If you think that's enough to cause me my pain for more than 3 days, then yeah, it's Wii's fault. Had lunch with Lyds and was still bothered by it but hoped it would go away soon..
Tuesday 3+pm: Was trying to finish off my assignment on the computer when my right arm started tingling and had the same dull achy feeling. Then my lips started feeling tingly.
Txted Lyds and she rushed to the doc to accompany me. (OH MAN THE LIB ALARM JUST RANG AND IT STARTLED ME I JUMPED OFF MY SEAT.. ahem. pardon me.) After I explained to the doc what happened to me, she did a neurological exam on me. There was definitely decreased sensation and motor function on my right side (esp. hand), BUT.....
DOC SAID IT WAS JUST MUSCULAR... Coincidentally both muscles of right leg and right hand were sore at the same time! Yeah! SO COINCIDENTAL, RIGHT? Sleeping on my right side at night, and writing and clicking the mouse with my right hand.. (duh.) At first I wasn't convinced, but after that I thought about it and guessed the doc was just right.. I was totally freaked out lah. The doc found out I'm a med student, and started laughing.. And told me that every med student, at one point of their life, would just think that they have a brain tumour/stroke at age 21 (that's ME)/gonna die at age 38 of a heart attack.
So I spent 70bucks at Urgent Doc............. For consultation, and of course, emotional comfort.
Txted Mum about spending 70 bucks at the doctor, and she called back almost immediately. First thing she said: "Wah, why so kiasu?"
=="
I'm just freaked out these days. Everything that happened. SERIOUSLY. Need a breather!!!
I really need to thank Lyds this time. If it wasn't for her I think I'd be diagnosing myself with the weirdest and longest syndrome you can find in a medical textbook.
P.S. Yes James, you were mentioned up there.
P.P.S Just in case you all think you're reading a blog that belongs to someone faceless, there you go, a photo taken on Saturday.. Before playing Wii..

你是我永远的救主
Happy Easter, everyone!
今天是复活节 (Easter), the day when the Lord Jesus Christ rose again, after He was brutally beaten and then nailed on the cross, and died for all of us.
This video was shown on Good Friday at church (means I'm 2 days late haha), and it shows a few snapshots of the movie Passion of The Christ. You may want to watch it and fully understand the meaning of Good Friday and Easter.
Enjoy!

An incident I'll NEVER forget.
I know I've been so bad with updating my blog, but tada! I'm here again. (:
I guess you guys must be pretty sick of listening to me talking about my med school life, but just fyo, I just started on Oncology run this morning! Hopefully I'll gain lots from this run.
Things were pretty cruisy until everyone became psyched about handing up their write ups before our run ends, and it freaked me out so much I didn't spend adequate time with my mum and brother. Yes, they came to visit me for a week!
The week went just like any other visits, until something crazy happened on the day they left (which was yesterday)! While we were preparing to leave for the airport (at about 6:15), suddenly a Kiwi guy walked out of my sister's room!!! He was filthy, and had blood stains all over his body!!!! OMG, RIGHT?!?! I TOTALLY FROZE. My first thought was: JANICE!!!!
He was stunned to see us and was trying to catch his breath while apologizing for breaking into our house. He said he was trying to RUN AWAY FROM A MONGREL MOB and has been running for the past hour! He broke in through my sister's window (OMG RITE!) and all he wanted was to use the PHONE to call the police! It was just freaking scary! I quickly rushed into my sister's room to check if she was okay, and THANKFULLY, she was still peacefully asleep, and didn't even know that a man just climbed through her window INTO HER ROOM.
And so after all the drama-mama, he quickly fled to hide from that 'mongrel mob' after making the call to the police. And we were all left stunned. 0.0 Nothing was stolen from Janice's room. What was left was his blood stains and dirty foot prints on her carpet.
James was pretty upset about the whole incident, as he kept warning us about how dangerous it'll be to leave our windows open, especially at night! And thankfully, it wasn't a robber or rapist or whatever bad person this time.. If it was... We're DEAD MEAT.
James also asked me a really serious and important question: What if the blood stain on the man wasn't his?
It was just a freaking scary incident lah. I'm so gonna leave my windows closed the whole time, at least for this week.
FREAKYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.
This world really ain't safe at all... Haha..
On a lighter note, Mum says I can go back to SIngapore in JUNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAYYYYYY~!! :D Will blog more soon.. Hopefully with photos. (:
Bye!

Yael Naim - New Soul
This is the song that makes me stop whatever I was doing, have that awesomest feeling whilst enjoying the melody, for the most of last week.
Familiar song? It's from Apple MacBook Air advert. (:
The song just makes my mood so much better. Imagine a tired med student coming home after a long day at the hospital, and having to cook dinner right after that..
Then the song comes on. Indescribable, man.
It so happened C4 channel was broadcasting her MV, and I saw it! I'm so glad I found the title and singer of that song.. Wee~
Hope you'll enjoy the song as much as I do. Really like the MV too. ^^
I came to this strange world
hoping I could learn a bit about how to give and take.
But since I came here
Felt the joy and the fear
Finding myself making every possible mistake
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...
I'm a young soul in this very strange world
hoping I could learn a bit about what is true and fake.
But why all this hate?
Try to communicate.
Finding trust and love is not always easy to make.
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...
This is a happy end
cause' you don't understand everything you have done
why's everything so wrong
This is a happy end
come and give me your hand
I'll take your far away.

Cardio Queennn!
Cardio Queen is soooo nice and smart and kind and ultra smart and sweet and INCREDIBLY smart! On our last day on Cardio run (which was yesterday), we even went down to Muffin Break for coffee together! Yeah! Even 4th yr med students (2 of us) were invited!
It was pretty funny, cos CQ kept mentioning about going down for coffee after ward rounds, A and I were just wondering if we were invited. So when CQ says "let's go down for coffee", I asked "Erm.. So are we involved in this coffee thing?"
LOLLLLLLLLL.
Everyone in the team laughed! I just sounded pretty awkward, right?! I KNOW! That's so funny lah. But of course both of us could join in.. Hehehe.
Apparently CQ's not even training for Cardio specialty! She wants to be an Emergency Department pro.. But, man! I can't stress how much she knows about the heart. She's definitely a walking textbook. She knows everything about Medicine right at the tip of her fingers.
*GUSHES IN ADMIRATION* *_* (starry eyed)
I wonder if I'll ever be as awesome as CQ... All hail Cardio Queen!
Will definitely miss Cardio!!! But I still suck at it... My home tutor was grilling me on a Cardio topic and I got stuck after naming 2 main causes of heart failure. Missed the last one.
Note to self: The main cause I missed was ARRHYTHMIA. ARRHYTHMIA.....

Bye Cardio!
I kinda miss wearing non-formal clothes. The million tees I got in Singapore are waiting for me to put them on!!! And yet, they're still in my closet, just waiting... Waiting that one day Jess can finally set her eyes on them and wear them out to the outside world!!!
== I'm insane.
However, come to think about it, seeing the guys in our class 'transforming' into MEN is really interesting! The guy who used to have the messy curly hair, with the green cap, holding a skateboard on his right hand, and owns a lab coat vandalized with neon coloured lightning bolts is now a decent looking doctor-to-be, though still not used to wearing ties. Haha! Pretty amazing, ay?
Cardio rounds end tomorrow, and I will reallyyy miss Cardio, even though I suck at it. Respiratory is next, and since it's not winter yet, we'll probably have like 2 patients in the whole ward... Soooo looking forward to that (ya right..). But I guess it would be the time when I can finally settle down and do some serious studying, since I'll have lotsa spare time!
The house surgeons had their rotations done just today, and the TIs have all gone overseas for their electives, so we saw SOOO many new faces at the wards this morning.. Even though I knew my house surgeon and TI for like 2 short weeks, but they were the ones who were feeding us with juicy information on how to read ECGs, how to interpret chest Xrays rarara... And now they're gone.. Oh well! Life still goes on and I hope they're happier wherever they are now!
Think I better read up a little bit before I go to bed. Adieus! :D
P.S. Okay, James Chang just asked if he was included in this post, and I said NO and he got upset about it. AWW! ROFL. So okay, James, you WERE mentioned in this post, okay? Good. My job's done.

What a headache.
0.0
I've been a headache-y person all my life (I think?), but this headache's pretty different from what I used to have (tension headaches). My sis calls me Panadol girl cos' I pop some in everytime I get the headaches. Realllly bad habit of mine.
3 days of unilateral headache on the right side of my head (ya, the half of my head with the dent ==). Not exactly responding to Paracetamol and sleep. Man, you don't know how much I've been sleeping this weekend!!!! I just wanted to sleep the headache away but it wasn't really working.
Missed venepuncture/cannulation demo on Friday because the headache was killing me and I was weak and super tired I just wanted to go home, so went home and slept till James came back to fill my tummy with... With what ah? See, even my memory's affected. I'm joking.
Saturday: Woke up feeling all fine! Went to have my 'six foot long sub' (tell you the joke next time..) at Meridian and wanted to go shopping! Then the annoying headache came back. Throbbing and annoying and irritating. James had to bring me home because I wasn't even in the mood of shopping. I was at PORTMANS and nothing was making me interested! Now THAT'S how you know that Jess is seriously not herself. PORTMANS lehhhhh!!! My favourite boutique man. Gosh. I missed my weekly shopping ):
Sunday morning I was feeling alright again! But during church camp meeting in the noon, the headache slowly inched back again. WAH LAU EH. I was really super pissed with it lah, but what am I to do, right? I can't cut my head off and let it roll to a corner while I enjoy what I do at the moment. I'll just scare both myself and everyone else around me lah. ANYWAY! I also found out that I was starting to dislike walking in the open, with the sun on my face. That's funny again. Dunedin will never have such good sun after summer, and I'm not enjoying it? So, what? Photophobia?
Man. I looked through my Oxford clinical handbook and read about migraine (ya, I'm SO NERDY right..), and I've got a few symptoms for it.
Actually, I'm wondering if it's caffeine withdrawal. I tried consuming ZERO caffeine starting Friday, and the headache came. After I took Paracetamol on Saturday, I made some coffee for myself (I was so guilty lah cos' I wanted to really be less dependent on coffee...), and the headache was gone after half hour!
Caffeine withdrawal, or the common migraine????
Heck, I just want the headache to stop coming back. ):

Sunshine After The Rain
Meiting: HI MEITSSSSSS. I MISS U!! I hope you're doing okay up at CCH.. I guess we all have the same problems with house surgeons and registrars.. I even have trouble with the consultants man.. GOSH.. Don't worry and just do your best, okay? If you really don't get what they are saying, just say you can't really catch what they're asking and ask if they can repeat.. Because we all know that you're got the brains for Med!!! Of course we all want to be there for each other, but trust me, you're kept in my prayers, okay? Take care my dear!! I so wanna go up to CCH lahHHHH!! Hehe.
Nads: HEY NADS!!!! How you??? MISS SEEING YA ARND DND! Thank you for the encouragement, both for Meits and I. You're always the encourager, hehe. The most optimisitc one already. (: Hopefully you're doing okay with clinicals.. We can do it lahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Thank you to PaoPao, Qi and my sister for the encouragement too. I really needed them. (: Love you all!

Me no want to go to school tomorrow...
):
I'm super sad. I feel so stupid because everytime a consultant/registrar asks me a question, I either stare back at them blankly, or I just waffle my way through with the most ridiculous answer ever...
And worse, my colleagues are making me feel like the dumbest person in the whole universe, with their very fluent and sensible answers. Man, how can they even study after school?????
I mean, 8-5 from Monday to Friday isn't very kind, plus we have to study hard out after that? I'm always dreaming of my bed at home and just wanting to lie on it forever and ever and not get up at all, you know? I haven't got enough sleep that's why I'm so crappy right now.. Pardon me..
Okay, I shan't be so hard on myself. I do get answers right at times, but for the wrong consultants!! The consultants whom I've been crapping to have been getting stupid answers from me since day 1, and are still staring back at me waiting for right answers from me!! Why can't I get the right answers for themmmmmm, the important people who are gonna assess me for terms........
My only concern now is: How am I gonna pass 4th year?

Happy Valentine's Day!
Lyds was such a sweetie.. She got me donuts from Coupland's last Saturday, and take a look at the special edition of the donuts for Valentine's Day!
Isn't it CUTE!?!!! It's not only cute, it's extra YUMMY! With all the love packed in there. (:
No matter if you're single, attached, attached but not with the one you love, in a complicated relationship, enjoy this day with your loved ones! It doesn't have to be the other half! To me, Valentine's Day is Friendship Day too! Like the other years before, my friends and I exchanged chocolates and wrote sweet things to one another in heart shaped papers.. Pretty nice feeling. I got my friends Hershey's Kisses this year! Yum.
My valentine... You guys would know who. Hahaha.

Happy CNY!
HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!
The atmosphere in Dunedin is definitely not as fab as some place else, but at least the Mayor (a Chinese who's been staying here for quite a while hurhur) managed to hold a CNY celebration in town, with pretty fireworks at 12am. Not too bad a celebration, ay? Just that I didn't go for it. (had previous experience last year, so I'd rather stay home, somehow.)
I was playing Monopoly Spongebob version (YES Chungie, Mel and Thazin! I bought it so I now know how the other little statues look like! real cute I love it to bits!) at home with James! HAHA. Eh, I had fun! Been playing Monopoly ever since we played it in Auckland with the credit card version, which has everything in their thousands and millions. Compare that to Plankton's lab whose rent is $6. HAHA!
Oh well, I better get ready for school now. Bye all!

Clinicals.. Finally!!!
ANYWAY! I was actually freaking out when the lecturer was telling us that we were going to talk and examine patients ON THE FIRST DAY BACK TO SCHOOL. My facial expression at that moment : 0.0!!!
It had always been an awesome feeling thinking that I'd be able to finally DO something in the wards, but when it comes to the real stuff, I blanked out. 0.0!!! again. Haha! But I came to my senses and I (and the rest of my group mates) followed the instructions and we did it! (:(:(: Proud of us, right? LOL.
So, we've learnt about history taking, general examination and cardiology examination these 2 days! Not too bad a progress for us. I personally prefer clinicals c/f endless lectures. All was well for me until we met the Cardiology registrar who taught us the examination and brought us to see 2 patients at the wards.
GOSH. The horror. She is THE Christina Yang of Grey's Anatomy I CAN PROMISE YOU ON THAT! She knows everything about the heart!! AKA the Cardio Queen. Hurhur. Aortic/mitral regurgitation, stenosis, stents, bypass procedures, pressures of LV/RV/RA/LA/JVP and their waves, CHF, weird syndromes like CREST Syndrome etcetc PLUS their common presentation. She is THE bullet train that talks so fast we all just stare blankly at her. Like this: 0.0
AND..... Well I don't think she means to, but she tends to put us 4th years down quite abit by shooting CRAZILY difficult questions to every single one of us and we just all stare back blankly. Like this: 0.0 I mean, she's not THAT old. She's probably in her late twenties, but she's like a GODDESS! I can't stand it!! I was talking to my group mate and just pondering when I'll ever be as pro as her. But gosh, I wouldn't want to be as mean to 4th students like her! She probably graduated a long time ago and forgot how it felt like being a 4th year student DURING THEIR 2ND DAY OF SCHOOL. 0.0
Oh well! That's my bit on my 2 days of 4th year. Thank GOd for Waitangi Day tomorrow. A day of break from this craziness is actually very good. LOL.
