Early Community Contact (TAKAKA!)

Currently in Takaka now, a little rural town close to Nelson at the north of the South Island of New Zealand, doing interviews with people and organizations about the health care services in rural areas! I'm doing okay here, which is considered SUPER good for a city girl like me. HAHA. THERE WAS NO RECEPTION SO I COULDN'T TEXT!!! I have to be like some idiot lifting up her handphone in mid air trying to detect SLIGHT reception, and if there was 1 or 2 bars of reception, I'd immediately press the 'send' button and my message will go off to James. HAHA, okay he's the MAJOR person I send texts too, but I've been getting loads of other txts from lotsa other people throughout my whole trip it's crazy! My classmates all label me as the handphone girl now. LOL. Could be a bad thing tho!

It came to me quite badly when we stepped into the backpackers tho'. The place wasn't managed well, there was a reception, the kitchen was lacking of lotsa stuff, the whole place was just like a shabby little ol' house, the owner of the BP was kinda DRUNK when he saw us and spoke to us at about 9pm-ish, 1 particular guy in the BP smoked weed and was kinda high too. -.- But the dorms were okay and free YUMMY home made bread every morning! Haha. Hope I can survive for 3 more nights! I think I can, cos I'm a survivor, RIGHT?!!?! LOLLLLL. Okay I'm going bonkers.

Haven't uploaded any photos just yet cos' I haven't got my camera USB cable and stuff with me right now (in net cafe!).

Experiencing rural life will be SO enriching and fresh for Jess! Hope I can enjoy the uniqueness of this place, and of course, the rural way of life! Presentation on Thursday in Nelson!! Hope the 3 of us (myself + 2 other med classmates) will do it really really well and give a SUPERB presentation on TAKAKA!

Okay, 4 min till I get logged out. I MISS DUNEDIN!!!!!!!!!! (OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT JUST CAME OUTTA MY MOUTH.) LOL. Okay I'm off! Will update again soon!

It's all about youuuu~

James turned 20 on 10th June 2007!

Had dinner at Esplanade on St Clair beach (we love this beach, don't we?), which had the most delicious pizza bread in the world!! Haha. The dips were amazing too! (sidetrack: Vino Vena's bread dips are AWESOME too! Go try some other time okay!) We had pizza (half Margarita and Meat somethingsomething (can't remember the name, sorry!)) and pasta which I can't remember the name either. (Man, so bad with names!) AIYAH, just know that they were all so yummy, but we ordered too much for just 2 people!! Ohohoh! We also tried Midori drink (the green drink!) which tasted SOOOOO good!! That's a drink I'd go for if I go to a pub the next time. Lol.

Got him Azzaro Chrome through Lawrence (THANKS LAWRENCE! I owe you a million. Hahaha). Both of us really like the fragrance and I'm really glad I could get it for him! It says Reflections of men at the back of the bottle, and I just laugh everytime I read it out loud. HAHAHA. Also made him a birthday card and a cube with photos of us on every side of it. An idea I stole while shopping for his present. Haven't got the money to buy, so decided to make it myself! :D

The churchies and I also gathered at my flat for a supposed surprise party for him (will tell you what happened later in this post!). 关怀组 and Charlie got him a cake for him, and so did I. So when he came into the living room, we did the normal birthday singing and everything with that cake. OH. No, it wasn't normal. Jess played Happy Birthday on a GUITAR, thanks to Alvin who lent me his guitar and also taught me how to play. What a big achievement! Jess with a GUITAR. Amazing. LOL.

Anyway, James thought it was just that after blowing out the candles and prayer, but guess what? Another cake from yours truly was given to him and both Alvin and I started on the guitars again (I did the tab, Alvin did the chords. My hands are too small for chord playing!! AHH!). HAHAHAHA. Okay, I think that was the ONLY surprise in the WHOLE entire day lah. YESSSSSSS!

I reckon I'm the MOST useless person when it comes to surprises. I totally suck at EVERY surprise I've planned since forever.

Surprise disasters/almost ruined:

1. Azzaro Chrome perfume - He wanted his friends to get it for him, and since I already bought it for him, I was like, 'Tell them don't buy! They'll regret!' He asked why and I couldn't answer. He gave me that suspicious look. 0.0

2. Birthday card and cube: I bought some materials for the making of these 2 items. It was a day when I wouldn't meet him until dinner time. But unfortunately, while walking home, he spotted me as he walked out of Dent school, and since the materials couldn't be folded, I had to hold them in my hands, and the plastic bag was TRANSPARENT. He asked me what was in my hands and I just said, 'Something I bought for a friend's birthday.' He gave me that suspicious look. Again. 0.0

3. Learning how to play the guitar: I went webby hopping searching for a proper website to learn chords. Was at central library's computer and didn't know he was coming. While doing some paper work, I suddenly heard him come and he asked, '你在学吉他啊?' 0.0

4. Birthday party: Okay, this is entirely not my fault! Hahaha. I invited his good friend to the party, and coincidentally James went to look for him a few hours before the party was supposed to start. His funny friend was playing on the Play Station, and as James was about to leave, his friend suddenly asked him, 'Hey, are you going to the surprise party at Jess' place later?' He, again, gave me that suspicious look when he told me about it. AHHH! 0.0

So, basically, the whole birthday become somewhat KNOWN to him. LOLLLLLLLL~ It's just funny thinking back how hard I tried to hide everything from him. Oh well! Shall try again next year. HAHAHA. (X

Thank you for bringing me back to my childhood times - the swings and see-saw. I never get tired of them tho'. Seems like it'll take me a long time to start growing up!

Lil' Max, belongs to James, but is also my other adopted pet after Merly. HAHA.

Won't be seeing you until I get to Auckland next Saturday. You've only been gone for less than 12hours and I already miss you sooo much. It'll be a busy week for both you and I - me going for ECC, and you catching up with friends and moving house. Take care, 家源!好想你哦~

What's going on here?

This week has been alright, just a few misfortunes along the way.. LOL.

Yesterday morning I requested James to send me to school cos I was gonna be late! It was really frosty (cos' winter's here, duh!), and the roads were sparkling with ice! Pretty lah, but not pleasant walking down those roads. While walking to the car, he asked me to look to the left cos the sky was all foggy and everything. But before I could do that, both of us slipped and fell on our rear ends!! Yeah, it was funny right after the fall, but my butt (okay, this sounds wrong. my a** then) hurts whenever I sit or lie down!! Unlucky for James, he sprained his ankle as he rolled over it during the fall. 对不起!! If I hadn't been such a brat and walked to school by myself, he wouldn't have suffered the sprain. ): Pray that he gets well soon, cos' he's going back to Auckland on Thursday. (no...)

Us on Signal Hill.

Going off to Takaka for my Early Community Contact week (part of my course) this coming week. Rural area this time, so.. I don't know how much fun I'm gonna have.. Hahaha. Hopefully I'd be able to survive out there. Following that week, will be going up to Auckland with Janice and Jen for some shopping and eating and adventure! That WOULD be fun. :D

MMMM, should be able to see some penguins in Takaka.. Hurhurhur.

For the past month, the international students in my course were discussing about who were to go to the 3 clinical schools for our final 3 years. Out of the 14 of us, 2 wants to go to Christchurch, 1 to Wellington, and the rest (YES the rest) wants to stay in Dunedin!! Oh, there's this one person who claimed she isn't international student, so we're all like ?0.0? Hahaha. But anyhow, the 14 of us are supposed to split evenly amongst the 3 schools! Okay, not that evenly cos' 14's not a multiple of 3, but you get what I mean.

My reason of staying: Sis here. Mum wants us to stay together. Complicated to move to another uni for her. James here. Have to start a new life in CCH again.

The primary reason of staying here is because it's just very annoying doing all those paperwork and procedures, and what if she can't get into Canterbury?! We'll be split! Mum's not gonna like that.

My reasons are probably not strong enough to allow me to stay here in Dunedin. I could be transferred into another school. None of the 10 of us (oh, maybe not including Nad) is willing to budge, cos' we all want to stay in Dunedin! But doing the calculations, probably we will have 6 staying in Dunedin, and the rest, off to CCH or.. Wellington. Should I just take the risk and stay put with my 1st choice of school, or should I give up, and leave for CCH instead of being balloted out into Wellington.. (Yeah, I really don't feel like moving up to Wellington) So confused. SOmeone help me! )X

I know that I don't exactly adore Dunedin very much, it being cold and boring and un-city like, but I know I'll miss Dunedin alot if I do leave.

Helppppp~ To stay.. Or not to stay ah....?

Ohohoh, and we gotta get some stethoscopes for clinicals next year too!! YAYYYYYYY! LOL. Most probably getting one from Singapore lah. Can't wait! :D:D:D

Am preparing for my 21st birthday party too! What do we actually do during parties anyways?! Especially parties somewhere not at home.. Taking photos. chatting... What else? I couldn't think of anything else to do but to eat, take pretty photos, talk and talk and continue talking, and.. Nothing else. Hmm. Need some ideas for the party! Preferably a sit down dinner and will invite many of my friends. Hahaha. Go figure!
